Is Socialism More Christian?

I need to get something off my mind and I hope I can do it in a logical and clear manner.

I’ve heard it said that Socialism is more Christian than Capitalism because Capitalism is based on greed. I do not agree that Capitalism is inherently greedy. However, I do not want to dwell on that point because I would like to make a deeper point to show the flaw in the above statement.

It is Socialism that is based on greed and the worst kind of greed.  It is the kind of greed that steals its wealth instead of earning it.

A Capitalist might be greedy but he will do the work himself to gain the wealth. A Socialist is greedy and will not work to gain wealth but will rather steal it from someone else. So a Socialist is greedy but then steals as well.

A Capitalist works hard to make money for himself in order to take care of his family. A Socialist says, “Why does that man have more than me? That is not fair! I will take some of it from him in order to bring more equality.” A Capitalist works to gain wealth. A Socialist is a sloth, is envious and jealous, and will actually steal from another for his wealth. How is that a Christian attitude?

A Capitalist has a philosophy of self-sufficiency and responsibility. He believes that if he wants something he will have to earn it. He will go work or start a business and, by so doing, he will be a benefit to society as well as benefit from society.

A Socialist lives in a state of constant envy and jealousy. He cannot look at the rich man and be thankful that someone does not have to worry about the bills. He cannot be grateful to God that God blessed the rich man. Rather, the Socialist is angry that God did not bless him the same way. If a Socialist cannot have a lot of money, than he does not want anybody to have a lot of money.

Another very Christian attitude that the Socialist lacks is thankfulness. The Bible is always telling us to come before God with a spirit of thanksgiving. If we look at our situation and really realize what God has given us I do not believe we would complain so much.

Have you ever given something to someone and then they complained that you did not do enough? It is very annoying and you get angry. Why can’t they be thankful for what you did do for them since you didn’t have to do it in the first place? It makes you want to take the gift back or never do anything for them again. I wonder how often God feels that way about us? He gives us so much and then we complain about how terrible things are going. It’s amazing that He continues to give so much to such ungrateful children.

I do not have a lot of money. I always worry about the bills. But I have to keep in mind that I am living in great wealth in comparison to some parts of the world. I do not go to bed hungry. I have a roof over my head. I have a job which provides me a living. I need to understand that I am very blessed and that I would not be where I am now if God had not blessed me.

So instead of greed and jealous perhaps the Socialist should try thankfulness?
